A design studio sees the light

Bandd Design is an Austin interior design firm. Their own studio still had the dark aluminum mini blinds it came with. New light-filtering roller shades on the windows and the glass door, and the room went from shut to glowing.

The brief

Keep the color. Lose the blinds.

A studio is a working room. Designers pull fabric, check paint and show clients samples here, so the light has to be honest. The old mini blinds cut it into stripes.

The walls are a warm terracotta pink, and the team did not want a treatment that fought them. The brief was simple: soft, even daylight, a clean line at the top of each opening, and something that looks right on the glass door as well as the windows.

We measured, sent samples, and fitted light-filtering roller shades across the room. Small business orders run through the same process as a whole house: a consult, a measure by the installer, and a scheduled install.

After

How it came together

Windows and a door, one visit

Consult

A short visit to the studio. We looked at the light through the day and ruled out blackout; the room needed glow, not dark.

Samples

Full-size swatches held against the wall in daylight. A warm white against the pink.

Measure

Each window and the door measured by the installer. The door shade is sized to clear the handle and the frame.

Install

Every shade up in a single visit. The old blinds came down the same day.
