Arched Windows - Austin

The house with the arched windows
A whole-home project in Austin: linen drapery under arches, sheers for the bedrooms, Roman shades where a soft wall of fabric was too much. One linen palette across the whole house.

The brief
Arches, blush walls and a lot of sun
The house is defined by its windows: tall arches in the living room, arched openings in the bedrooms, and west light that moves across blush-pink walls all afternoon. The owners wanted the architecture to stay the hero and the fabric to look like it had always been there.
We built the scheme around linen. Full-height linen drapery on the arches, hung high so the curve stays visible. Sheers in the bedrooms for daytime softness. Roman shades, plain pleat and flat fold, in the rooms where a stacked panel would crowd the furniture.
One palette ties it together: natural and blush linens against the pink walls, so the rooms read as one house rather than a series of decisions.

How it came together
A whole house, one conversation at a time
Consult
Samples held on every wall at the time of day each room is used. The blush walls chose the linen.
Measure
Arches measured for rod height and return so the curve is never covered. Romans measured inside mount for a flush face.
Make
Drapery sewn to the measured drops; Roman shades made to measure in plain pleat and flat fold.
Install
Hardware and drapery first, then Romans and final dressing. Photographed in May.
