Manhattan Apartment - New York

Residential · New York · 2024
A Manhattan apartment, room by room
White walls, tall windows and a lot of sky. The owners wanted the living spaces to glow and the bedrooms to go dark, with nothing on the walls but a single remote.

The brief
Glow by day, dark by night
A minimalist apartment with tall windows and open sky. The light is the best thing about it and the worst: it washes out screens in the office and comes in early in the bedrooms.
The scheme is one product, three jobs. White light-filtering rollers in the living room and office so the rooms stay bright and the glass reads as a soft panel. Blackout in the bedrooms: navy in the primary for a moody, hotel-dark room, Armour in the guest room.
Every shade is motorized and runs from a wall-mounted remote, so the apartment goes from open to closed without touching a chain.

How it came together
Measured once, fitted to the glass
Consult
Samples on the glass at midday and at dusk. White light filtering for the living spaces, blackout colors chosen room by room.
Measure
Tall inside mounts, measured by the installer so each shade tracks straight over its full drop.
Make
Rollers made to measure with motors in every tube; fabrics matched across rooms so the hems line up.
Install
Installed by Rolli. Motors paired to a wall-mounted remote and grouped by room.

The details
One product, three fabrics
- Living and office
- White light-filtering roller shades. Glare off the screen, light in the room.

- Other bedrooms
- White blackout in the green bedroom, Armour blackout in the pink bedroom, light filtering in the guest room.
- Mount
- Inside mount, tall drops, hems aligned across each wall of glass.
- Control
- Motorized, with a wall-mounted remote and room groups.
- Who did what
- Rolli: consult, samples, measure, made to measure, motorization, installation.
“Tall windows forgive nothing. A shade that is straight at the top and crooked at the hem is the first thing a guest notices.”Rolli design team
