Guide · Motorized shades

Motorized shade battery life. About a year per charge, 500 cycles.

Rolli motorized shades run on Rollease Acmeda Automate Li-ion motors with the battery sealed inside the tube. Rollease rates a charge at about 18 months at one cycle a day, roughly 500 cycles, and the pack for about 500 recharges. Charging is a USB cable for a few hours, with the shade still on the window.

What Rollease publishes

Charge interval 12–18 months typical; about 18 months at 1 cycle per day (Rollease Li-ion FAQ)
Cycles per charge about 500 (one cycle = one full down and up)
Recharge cycles about 500 before the pack loses capacity
Battery 2,600 mAh Li-ion built into the Zero Li-ion Q 0.7 / 1.1 / 2.0; 5,200 mAh in the 35 and 45 Q6 and Q13
Charging Micro-USB (Zero series) from the supplied cable or the 5 V / 2 A wall charger; Rollease does not publish a charge time
Low battery signal Motor jogs or slows; Pulse PRO app shows battery level per shade (two-way ARC)
Operating temperature 32–140 °F (0–60 °C)
Warranty 5-year limited on battery motors

What this means for your home

For a shade you move once or twice a day, plan on charging about once a year. Set a reminder for the same month you change smoke-alarm batteries.

Charge it where it hangs. Plug the cable into the port at the end of the headrail, leave it a few hours, unplug. No ladder work beyond reaching the port; Rolli puts the port on the side you choose.

A 5V solar panel on a window that gets direct sun keeps the battery topped up, so the cable never comes out. North windows and shaded windows still charge once a year.

What drains it faster

Four things that shorten the interval

Factor Effect What Rolli does
Cycles per day Each full down-and-up is one cycle; a shade moved 4 times a day gets about a quarter of the interval, roughly 4 months Schedules on the Pulse PRO hub cut accidental extra cycles
Shade weight and width A wide blackout works the motor harder per cycle than a small light filter Rolli sizes the motor (Q 1.1, Q 2.0, Q6) to the fabric weight so it never runs at its limit
Temperature Li-ion loses capacity below freezing and above 140 °F Interior shades stay in range; outdoor shades use the Li-ion FT motor
Pack age About 500 recharges; a yearly charge means decades, a monthly charge means about 40 years, so age is rarely the limit Motor warranty is 5 years; Rolli replaces a motor in the field without changing the shade

An older Rolli article

Rolli’s 2023 article on this subject quoted two years per charge. Rollease Acmeda’s current published figure for the Li-ion range is 12 to 18 months at one cycle a day; this page follows the vendor. Real intervals depend on use.

Questions

Battery life, answered

How long does a motorized shade battery last on one charge?

Rollease Acmeda publishes 12 to 18 months of typical use, about 500 cycles. One cycle is one full down and up. Move a shade twice a day and expect roughly 8 months; once a day, about 18.

How do I know the battery is low?

The motor slows or jogs at the end of travel. With the Pulse PRO hub the Automate app shows each shade’s battery level, because ARC is a two-way radio.

Do I have to take the shade down to charge it?

No. The charging port is at the end of the headrail. Plug in the cable, wait a few hours, unplug.

Can I replace the battery?

The Zero Li-ion pack is built into the motor. Rollease rates it for about 500 recharges, which at a yearly charge outlasts the shade. If a motor fails inside the 5-year warranty, Rolli replaces the motor; the tube, fabric and brackets stay.

Is a solar panel worth it?

On a south or west window with direct sun, yes: the 3 W panel keeps a normally used shade charged indefinitely. On a north or shaded window it stretches the interval rather than removing the charge.

Battery or hardwired?

Hardwired if the walls are open or an electrician is already coming; otherwise battery. See battery vs hardwired.
